Local Law 27 Update

We thank Staten Island Council Members David Carr and Frank Morano for supporting legislation introduced by Council Member Althea Stevens that would repeal the July 1, 2026 deadline for Local Law 75, which requires certain buildings to install roll-down security grilles with at least 70% visibility.

In a recent statement, the NYC Department of Buildings said it would not enforce the current law’s July 1 deadline while the new proposal is under consideration. Under this proposal, visibility requirements would only be applied when an existing grille needs to be replaced.

SIEDC appreciates the City Council’s response to the timeline and financial concerns raised by local firms and will continue to keep our community informed on the progress of this proposal.
